Some of the things I've been building or exploring in my own time. I keep the older work here too; it provides a useful record of how my interests have developed.
A word processor developed for DOS-compatible computers. The project explores text editing, screen layout, cursor movement and document handling within an older operating environment. It is also a practical way to learn more about x86 assembly and the compromises involved in low-level software.
A mobile application designed around attending physical auctions. It organises catalogue lots, viewing notes and grouped items, with bidding calculations and purchase tracking. An important part of the design is making common actions quick enough to use while an auction is running.
An experiment in browsing shops through a three-dimensional online environment. I have been exploring movement, clicking on objects, viewing product information and navigating between shops without breaking the feeling of being in a shared space.
A longer-term learning project concerned with what it takes to build an operating system for an x86-compatible machine. I'm interested in how software reaches the hardware: booting, memory, display output and eventually networking. The purpose is understanding the components rather than using a pre-existing operating system as a shortcut.
A small browser experiment where connected players could choose a name and move a coloured box. The server relayed player positions so that each browser could see the others updating in real time.
The original demonstration was hosted on Heroku and is no longer available. These screenshots show how it worked.
The rotating cube on the homepage is a simple 3D rendering experiment. Although small, it reflects a continuing interest in interactive graphics and in making computer interfaces more engaging.
